Amount of Cash?

Just looking to see if anyone had a ballpark figure on the amount of cash taken on a FP cruise? I know most of the independent tours take cash- do they take USD as well as FPC? Is there anywhere local to get cash or are we going to need to bring it all with us? Thanks- booth

I don't remember the exact amount we took last time, sorry. But, the indep. excursions do take credit cards, which worked fine for us. Actually, we used our credit card wherever we could. Didn't have to rely on pockets full of cash that way.

 

Any bank and atm will give you cash from your credit cards and/or exchange for francs. We used our card at the atm in Raitea and it was fine. Not sure about your debit card tho - wouldn't trust that anyway. You can also get cash from the pursers desk (only a couple hundred tho), along with francs for a pretty good rate.

We brought US dollars for the private excursions we had pre-booked that charged in US currency. Once in Tahiti, we walked downtown and found an ATM to use there for local currency. We used Tahitian francs for most of our shopping on the islands, although quite a few places would have accepted dollars. Our taxi in Moorea would only accept the local currency though, so it is good to have some with you. We also used credit cards where possible.
