Carnival spirit

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

We are thinking of booking a cabin on Carnival spirit for a November cruise. It will be our first cruise so I'm a bit nervous about booking!! Anyway, we have done some research online and I thought that tipping is not extra on carnival spirit. However my husband went to the travel agent today to get a quote and was told that tipping is expected on this boat. Just wondering if anybody knows for sure?? Also do many "schoolies" go on cruises at the end of exams? It would be around the time we want to go. Any other advice, tips, best rooms, etc.?

thanks

Generally on US ships the drinking age is 21 so I dont think you will be swamped with schoolies. There are some exceptions for Australian sailings but I am not sure..also generally there has to be someone over 21 in each cabin..so all in all it wont be a schoolies cruise. "Tipping" is expected on all US based ships..just factor it in as part of your cruise expenses and then forget about it it will be charged to your cruise card..you dont have to worry about how much or to whom you give it.

Enjoy your first cruise..

Had a conversation with a representative of Carnival Australia yesterday and was quoted "No Tipping" as all carnival corp owned Aussie based ships. Tipping who you want, what you want is the way to go, no charges added to your account. Robin:)

The TA may not be a cruise specialist as it sounds like they looked up current information. So far, as a US cruise line, tips are expected and extra. However, when she joins the Australian fleet, that will be one of the changes and extra tips are no longer expected - the cruise price includes those.

Regarding schoolies, there are some that go on them who have graduated/finished exams, but most children travel on the Dec/Jan sailings. There will probably be some but in November, but I doubt will be a standout, particularly as cruise staff keep control over things.

Hi

No compulsory tipping on Spirit and aussie Dollars on board. It is out permanently.

Just a little tip if you are looking for an inside or an oceanview cabin ...they are limited and mostltly on deck one .

The ship is top heavy with balcony cabins and travel agents encourage you to up grade to a balcony...its almost bartering. Its being advertises as the family fun ship so i would expected a a fair amount of kids in school holidays.

We are booked on this ship for the December school holidays. I'm also glad there is no tipping as I never would have imagined there would be, and wouldn't go on a cruise where there was.

Careful please dont start yet another flaming row about "tips".

Sorry, I didn't realise this was a contentious issue! It was just something that never occurred to me for an Australian cruiseline.
