Loving My Life Posted June 5, 2012 #103 Share Posted June 5, 2012 (edited) You guys look like you had a great time! We really enjoyed Calabaza and seems like they are very similar. We had a much smaller boat with only 12 people on it. They also treated us like royalty and had a ton of homemade local food. You got some amazing pics! I was really tired and decided not to snorkel at the second stop but after seeing the pics, I know I really missed out :( I did a review that hasn't posted yet in the member review section of the boat but I have lots of pics. Maybe I will post on your review to compare! Please do! I am torn between the two. I have looked at both of them on trip advisor and here on cc, and they sound so similar. I emailed Calabaza today and received an email back. They said that the area where they swim with the turtles is often crowded with other groups so not to expect it to just be our group. Were there a ton of other people there when you went? How about on Silver Moon? I realize they can't guarantee we would be the only ones there, but I also don't want to be surrounded by 300 people--I could take the carnival excursion if that's what I was looking for. :) Is there anything that differentiates Calabaza from Silver Moon? BTW, I'm loving the review! Edited June 5, 2012 by Loving My Life
Bsquared1027 Posted June 5, 2012 #104 Share Posted June 5, 2012 My experience with Calabaza was great. We left right on time and got to the area to swim with the turtles before anyone else did. I know they can't guarantee but getting there quickly helps... I also didn't mention that they had fresh coffee and flavored creamer right when we got on the boat. Then we had fish cakes with spicy sauce. They also had crackers and dip. Lunch was curry chicken and plantains, rice, yams, salad, snapper and much more I can't remember. We also had dessert. I will say that our boat was smaller and had a family on it and basically no one drank alcohol ( they offered plenty though) I kept asking them to play the music louder which they didn't seem to want to do. SO - if you want to party the other one might have more drinkers and loud music ...:D I am trying to figure out how to add pics...

Bride2Be Posted June 5, 2012 #106 Share Posted June 5, 2012 We have been on Silver Moon several times now. Anytime we get to Barbados, we go out with them. We will be taking this cruise in July with our children and cannot wait for them to experience Silver Moon as well. We love Silver Moon so much that we already have them booked for our April 2013 cruise! Great review! Cannot wait to read the rest. We leave in 46 days! Kubanita Posted June 6, 2012 Author #113 Share Posted June 6, 2012 Back of the ship.. Saw them playing a few nights... when I went to grab my ice cream ( yes this is where you find the ice cream always available ).. I thought it was awesome the way they made the game so you can play. :)
ibcnusoon Posted June 6, 2012 #114 Share Posted June 6, 2012 Thank you for this picture! Now I have a visual of what the gates in the port look like! We are going with Calabaza Sailing to snorkel with the turtles and shipwreck and have to meet at Gate One. Now I'll know where to look! THANKS!! BTW, I'm loving the review! We chose Calabaza over Silver Moon because a couple of times I had read reviews where people who booked the 12 person Silver Moon cat where merged with the 24 person cat because there wasn't enough people that signed up for the 12 cat (and they weren't refunded money because of it). Other than that, both Calabaza and Silver Moon have received rave reviews. Calabaza only has one 12-person cat, so I think it might be a bit more personalized. Silver Moon has 2 cats, a 12 passenger and a 24 passenger. Also, Calabaza does not require a deposit (Gina will ask for your credit card number just to hold a reservation, she won't charge anything until you show up with cash, travellers check or credit card the day at the pier). I believe Silver Moon requires a deposit and you can't book more than 6 months in advance. Edited June 6, 2012 by ibcnusoon

You actually have to pass the inside building walk through and then after you will see the gates. I had to ask just to make sure I would make it on time. But you wont miss it afterwards. Its irganized :) Im glad the picture helps! :) I think that's one of the ship's tours, see how much more crowded it is? Yup it sure is. Silver moon does require that you pay the deposit first, then the remaining balance. Thanks for clarifying that :):)

kornuttle Posted June 6, 2012 #125 Share Posted June 6, 2012 Hiii!! I just finished reading both of your reviews! Loved all the details and all of the beautiful pictures! Obviously this is completely off topic to this particular review but seeing as how this review is more up to date I wanted to ask about the allure!! haha. I am in awe of this ship (especially after seeing all the photos!) I was wondering how the dining works on this ship?? There are so many little restaurants/pubs, etc. are any of these included in the cruise price?? I also noticed you had posted a picture of the Johnny Rockets and said it was pretty cheap...I was pretty surprised because when I had gone on Voyager of the Seas (back in '02 I think:confused:) the Johnny Rockets on the ship was included as one of the regular dining options, no surcharge. Has this changed on all the ships? I guess I'm just wondering what is included and what isn't...the ship is amazing but paying for all of the good dining options kind of defeats one of the great purposes of going on a cruise for me! Please enlighten me in the new RCCL ways!?? Haha! :)
