Apple5 Posted June 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2012 Just returned from a week on the Grand in an AC mini suite on Dolphin deck. Cabin D716 is an aft cabin on the port side so we were expecting thruster noise, which we certainly experienced – the entire cabin shook and rattled when manoeuvring. However, there was another noise, more mechanical, perhaps a pump, which could be heard intermittently at various times of the day and night, lasting for a couple of minutes each time. It appeared to emanate from beneath of the floor of the sitting area. Has anyone experienced similar or perhaps knows the cause? Not a problem for us, just interested to know. :)
GreenBayDave Posted June 11, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2012 Yes, we have had that same noise when on the Grand in a forward mini suite. In fact we have had that noise several times on several cruises on the Grand. The noise is from a hydraulic motor used to lower and raise the lifeboats. On one cruise the motor got stuck in the on position and that noise you heard went on for over an hour. It took a call to the purser's desk and over and hour of work by mainenance to turn it off. The next morning we were visited by two officers who explained to us what the noise was and apologized. We did not hear that noise for the rest of that cruise. Did you like your mini-suite, minus the noise of course? Yes, we loved the mini suite, especially for the inside sitting area as the weather on our cruise wasn't hot enough to sit outside much. The ship is in a good state overall, but the areas that were updated/installed during the refit last year really stand out and look great. I'm going to post a full account in the next day or so in the review section, so stay tuned. ;)
