Jaffa Posted June 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2012 This was released in the OZ cruise media today. Seems to indicate sisters are def on the market. Radio reports say one of the sisters is a front runner for an Orion purchase. The sister in question was un-named. Orion ship for sale? AN inside source has whispered to Cruise Weekly that Orion I has been placed on the market. While it was less of a surprise to see Orion Expedition Cruises dump Orion II from its 2013 program (Cruise Weekly, 08 Mar), it seems the owner of its original ship is now to seeking to sell. According to an advertisement on a marine sales website, which includes a photo of Orion in Sydney Harbour with the ship’s name blacked out, the estimated price is US$50 million or “make offer”. Directly underneath the ad, the old Orion II is also listed for sale for $22 million, “available from spring 2013”. Rumours that representatives of Orion have recently inspected Seabourn and Hapag-Lloyd vessels suggest that Orion may be considering a shift to a single, larger ship for future operations. Stay tuned to CW for updates. CW is CruiseWeekly Australia.
Love transatlantics Posted June 14, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2012 Should the Heading for this Thread read THERE IS JUST A RUMOUR THAT Orion Cruises Australia inspected Seabourn sisters with view to purchase
Jaffa Posted June 14, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted June 14, 2012 No, Because as l said in my comments it was also covered by radio today as well. The radio confimed that Orion had acknowleded they had in fact done the inspections but refused to comment any further or about which vessel. I posted the news print story because l cannot post radio waves. I wish people would read the posts a bit more carefully. Cheers, Edited to add, Orion does not seem to happy that this news has broken. Well thats what the radio intimated anyway.
Love transatlantics Posted June 14, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 14, 2012 :) Silly me .I should have realized that, ''Radio reports say one of the sisters is a front runner for an Orion purchase'' really meant ''The radio confirmed that Orion had acknowledged they had in fact done the inspections but refused to comment any further or about which vessel ''
Jaffa Posted June 15, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted June 15, 2012 No Your wrong again sorry. Both of those statements stand indepentley of each other. The first was inregards to Orion having a Seabourn preference over Hapag-Lloyd according to the radio report. Mind you this was the radio editorial summation of the story in the intro. The 2nd was an acknoledgement (spelling) in the same radio story that the inspections had actually happened, but not which ship or ships had been inspected. I am unsure why you are having an issue with my posting this info. You don't happen to have a connection with Seabourn, Orion, Hapag-Lloyd or there agents, representatives or brokerages do you?? You seem to be trying to talk down the storys for some reason. The fact you post from the UK Have just joined for this response and only 3 posts does stand out to me. A bit of hoseing down maybe?? I know in Oz, Orion does not seem happy that this info has got out. Regardless of any of that, the storys are real and both in black and white and broadcasted. It sounds like you have a bit of an issue with it.
cruising boy Posted July 2, 2012 #6 Share Posted July 2, 2012 It doesn't seem that far fetched at all ... Sarina Bratton is the founder of Orion, and still maintains a significant shareholding. He CV also includes a stint as Vice President and General Manager (Asia Pacific) for Cunard ... around the time that Cunard and Seabourn were merged by Carnival. Ergo, she would have quite intimate knowledge of how Seabourn operates (and the Orion model is fairly similar). Perhaps Seabourn will take notice and give the Pride a season in Australia (in the same way that Cunard gives QM2 a month long Australia / NZ season) ... that would be fantastic!
