Honeymoon Trip - Upgrade from D6 possible??!!

Hello All!

I have spent the last 4 hours reading many threads from the last couple of months - thank you all so very much for your hints, tips & information.

My fiance & i are getting married in Las Vegas & cruising on the QM2 from NY to Southampton 14th September 2005.

We havent been on a cruise before & i am (to say the least) a tad worried about most things!

Anyways, that aside! Does anyone have any tips for getting an upgrade?

Due to lack of cash & the expense of the two weeks prior to boarding the QM2 we could only afford the lowest of the low - D6.

We would love to get an upgrade & any information as to how this can be obtained would be very much appreciated!!!

Hi David,

Congratulations on your engagment and upcoming wedding. You have chosen a wonderful ship for your honeymoon. Cruise Critic is a great source of information. Did you get a guarantee or a specific room? If you got a guarantee, you will very likely get an upgrade. I have known several people who were upgraded from a D-6 guarantee on the QM2. However, I can assure you that even the D-6 rooms are lovely so you should be very comfortable in any cabin on the QM2.

Its The Luck Of The Draw Chances Are More And More People Will Request A D-6 Booking Which In Theory Will Put You Into A More Expensive Cabin. You Will Luv The Ship. W E Just Returned From Our 3rd Trip With Cunard The First On The Qm2 And Can't Find Anything To Complain About. Its Fabulous!!! Bon Voyage, Enjoy!!!

Hi Beth & 2Moose!

Thanks very much for your replies! We are so excited about our trip, you would not believe!

We are in a guarantee room so fingers crossed for the upgrade! Although thanks for letting me know that the D6 cabin is great in itself :)

I am really quite nervous about the whole cruise affair, but i am sure things will be fantastic!

Thanks for all your support & enjoy your up & coming cruises!

Hello AJ,

Just realized I used the wrong name in my prior post! Sorry.

Since you have a guarantee, you have an extremely good chance of getting an upgrade. If you look at the deck plan for the QM2, there are only about six D-6 cabins. They are most likely selling more than six D-6 guarantees. All of the D cabins are just alike. The only difference is in the location. You might get lucky and be upgraded to a C or B catagory cabin. We'll keep our fingers crossed for you. Keep us posted on your cabin assignment and let us know if you have more cruising questions.

Hi,

Congratulations and best wishes!

I am a Cunard and cruise specialist and in 10 years in the travel industry, I've had only a couple of clients who didn't receive a very nice upgrade on a guarantee rate. Usually, these upgrades are several categories up! It isn't guaranteed, of course, but it is pretty likely. You can be very hopeful!

Be sure and ask your reservations agents to put a note in your reservation to tell Cunard that you are celebrating your honeymoon! That often helps encourage upgrades and other special treatment and amenities.

Best Regards,

Julia
