Loved Montreal

Recommended Posts

Thanks to everyone for their great advice on our recent stay in Montreal 6/7-6/9 pre cruise stay.As far as the Protesters went almost none.Did see 2 men banging pots as we were sitting at an outside cafe having desert. That was about it.We were approached by many homeless/drug seekers.Sad to see so many young people withdrawing in the parks.

Our Hotel St Denis was in a great location. We were able to get to almost everywhere on foot. The city had closed off many streets to traffic for Grand Prix Celebrations.Took a long walk to Schwartz's Deli and then climbed up to Mount Royal Park The scenery was well worth it. Loved the many outside cafes.Ate Poutine at La Baresquise(sp) what an experience to say the least. It was very good.Vieux Montreal was 5 minutes from the Hotel. Enjoyed The Ramazey Museum after having breakfast at an outside cafe.We did alot of shopping of Canadian made goods, like maple syrup jams and Ice Wine Cider. Dinner at Chez Choose was well worth the long walk up St Denis Street from the 1400 block to 4600 block Thanks Ephraim for the suggestion.

Our taxi driver had no problem finding the cruise ship port with your directions.

La Banquise (The ice floe)

Chez Chose (At someone's)

Glad you enjoyed and weren't bothered by the students. Sorry you missed the best breakfast in town, though :)

We are planning to stay in Montreal after cruise. How many days do we need and what to see. The plan is to drive to Toronto after that. Should we rent a car for touring Montreal or just to rent when we drive to Toronto. Planning to see the falls on Canada's side.

Don't rent a car for Montreal.Very walkable City.Day 1 we did Schwartz Deli for smoked Meat Sandwich on St Laurent. Then walked up to Mount Royal Park for sensational views.Dinner at La Banquise for Poutine with window and buying in many stores along the routes. Day 2 was Vieux Montreal. There are many interesting places to visit there.I am sure you will find many wonderful restaurants to please you. Many streets are closed to cars so walking was the way to go.

I agree--a car is not necessary. We also stqyed at the St. Denis and loved the location. GREAT restaurant next door for breakfast. We bought a 3-day metro pass and used it easily. Even used it to ride the #747 bus all the way to the airport!
