lindseyn06 Posted June 25, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2012 My SO and I are major foodies and always try to sample local delicacies everywhere we travel. We are planning a cruise for September with a stop in Grand Cayman and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on food that we should not leave the island without trying. (we will also be stopping in Jamaica and Cozumel so if you have any suggestions for either of those places as well, I would love to hear them):D
Capt_BJ Posted June 25, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 25, 2012 Cayman - turtle if you can find it. We still remember the US Thanksgiving dinner of turtle Cordon Blue we enjoyed in Cayman years ago Jamacia - JERK!
TurtleTagger Posted June 25, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 25, 2012 Turtle, as Capt_BJ recommended, is one of the the most unique cuisines to Cayman. Other typical local dishes are similar to those in Jamaica: Fish prepared Escovitch or Cayman Style (covered in slice peppers and onions), Ox Tails, Heavy Cake and Conch to name a few. Al Fresco restaurant in West Bay (towards the Turtle Farm) may not have all of the above, but it is a good place to try some local food types and has a nice view.
