Here's a previous CC thread that deals with luggage storage:

You might also see if your cruise line has a "bags" program whereby they take your bags straight from the ship to your airline.

Other suggestions are to go to a hotel near the port, or in the Quarter, and just check you bags with the bellman there. You may be charged a small fee for the convenience, but if not, you should certainly tip more than normal.

As for what to do: You'll have about 5 hours, more or less, depending on how early you want to be at the airport for your flight. That's plenty of time for a leisurely walking tour of the Quarter, with stops for lunch & "refreshments." Don't forget a stop for beignets at the Cafe du Monde.

You could also take a run on the St. Charles line streetcars, and get a lot of sightseeing in that way:

If you have kids with you, try the Aquarium. It's right at the foot of Canal street, next to the Algiers ferry landing.

what to do - our flight isn't until 5pm suggestions appreciated - we will have luggage thanks

I don't know what ship you are on, but I am pretty sure that all 3 lines sailing out of here off services as the previous poster mentioned. If you get the luggage situation straight. I would walk over to the French Quarter, sightsee, have a nice lunch, have a few drinks, then hop a cab to the airport.
