Renaissance vs Springhill Suites in FLL

My family and I will be staying in Ft Lauderdale for a night before our Allure cruise in August. I have enough Marriott points for either the Renaissance at 17th or Springhill Suites and would like to know what would be a better option with kids (girls ages 6 and 8). We arrive around lunchtime, so we'd only have an afternoon and evening to kill. Can you walk to the beach from the Renaissance? Any information on the pools at either hotel?
Thanks for your help!
