ekh40 Posted July 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2012 We're trying to decide on a river cruise for May/June 2013...have been on many ocean cruises but this will be our first river cruise. We can only be gone 11-12 days so can't take one of the longer Amsterdam to Budapest trips. Also...looking at Viking, AMA, and Avalon...any preferences? Lastly, is it worth the extra money to book a room with a true balcony...not the french balcony? Thanks!

It was our first river cruise and we loved it. We had a french balcony as that was the only type available on that cruise. I wouldn't have wanted to have the lower deck without a balcony but can't say if I would pay extra for a real balcony. It depends on how much you feel you would use it. Most days you would be out and touring but if you like to sit out before or after dinner it may be worth it to you. However, be aware that if you are docked next to another boat it would be uncomfortable. We can highly recommend Avalon.
BPCruiser Posted July 11, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 11, 2012 We as well love and have been satisfied with Avalon. We recently sailed from Budapest to Prague and think those were the best ports thus far of our past 2 riverboat cruises. So much to see and do and Budapest and Prague are truly beautiful!!:)
