Randy & Carmen Posted December 24, 2012 #27 Share Posted December 24, 2012 Thanks...Ha ha....cute........:D Ok, yep it looks like we've decided to take taxi to Bayahibe and hang at beach an do a little shopping, eating, etc.....Which is better..Dreams beach or the public?.....Is there a cost at Dreams?....Also do you know which particular part the taxis drop off at?......Looks like it is all walking around there anyway. :D
lifesabeach123 Posted December 24, 2012 #28 Share Posted December 24, 2012 To use Dreams beach and facilities (bars, restaurants, pools, toilets, showers, kayaks, hobbie cat, snorkeling gear) you have to arrange a day pass ($US60pp) in advance. Email Kerry Consentino for more info on info.drelr@dreamsresorts.com You can only enter Dreams resort via the main roadside entrance, and you'll have to organise your own taxi at the port - now if you read the other posts on taxi to Dreams you'll see that the round trip price varies from $15pp to $30pp, depends on the number in your group. You could try doing a roll call on this forum to fill up your taxi (most minivans take 9 passengers). You pay taxis on the return trip. The public beach is right next door to Dreams beach - a taxi should drop you at the beach car park. There are gift shacks and a rustic cafe. The bathroom facilities are not the nicest. There are bigger, cleaner ones in the village by the main car park (bring your own toilet paper) or in any of the village restaurants. The beach sellers can be a bit full on but a polite "no gracias" usually does the trick. There is plenty of natural shade. Beach chairs for rent (not sure of the price). If you go on the weekend the beach can be crowded and the locals tend to drop their trash wherever they like  Tip: if you want to try Stand Up Paddle Boarding don't ask the beach sellers as they will try to charge you more money so they can get commission for walking you to the office - the SUP company does not work with them. Go direct to the SUP company's surf shack shown on the map in the previous post or contact them in advance. This applies for other activities too! Good eateries: Doña Claras is great for fresh fish, lobster ($US17 per pound), chicharones (fried chicken pieces) and cheap drinks (rum & coke is 90rd / $US2.25). It has a lovely view over the other smaller bay. Mare Nostra is more expensive but does great seafood. Saona Cafe for burgers and club sandwiches. Cafecito Cubanas for great mojitos and local dishes. El Barco restaurant has a tiny strip of beach right in front if you want to get away from the crowds and beach sellers.
