jrzgrl Posted July 25, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2012 Has anyone used this service? We have done this in other cities and you usually get bright energetic students that work strictly for tips. We are DIY in Athens and thought we might give them a shot. I'd appreciate any input.
Loves2traveleurope Posted March 5, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2014 Has anyone used the Athens free walking tour? The company gets good reviews on trip advisor and I was thinking of using them.
Adventures ahead Posted March 18, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 18, 2014 We did this tour two summers ago and it was excellent. Emails were clear and all went as planned. We had been to Athens once before, had already climbed the Acropolis and spent time in the Plaka, so this was a great 'on-foot' perspective rather than through a bus window. Even though it was August, and hot, we got off the ship asap and walked to the train station. We got off at the appointed stop and a few people were gathering. Within twenty minutes, the guide arrived and we walked around the Acropolis for about 5km. The tour brought us full circle to the same train stop in the Plaka so we had time for a quick bite and a few minutes of shopping before heading back the same way we came. Our guide was a student with excellent English and he provided a great overview. He wasn't the person who I emailed, but it didn't matter - the tour was great. He suggested a street where to eat that was a little less touristy and less expensive, just off the Plaka. For the walking tour, you pay whatever it's worth to you. I'm sure some pay a little and others pay a lot. Obviously, it works for them because they're still at it.
twilightrabbit Posted August 30, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2016 Can you please give me information on how I can contact students who give the free walking tour in Athens? Thank you! The Bryans
LondonTowner Posted August 31, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 31, 2016 We did a free walking tour with Sandeman last year in Berlin and the guide was excellent. They operate in many European cities these days. Our guide was an American and an architect, not a student. He was so good we also booked a trip to Potsdam with them. We left the guide on the walking tour 10 Euros each. Some people left nothing. The tours and information for walking tours can easily be found by Googling or looking on Tripadvisor.
