cjm66 Posted August 3, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2012 The fireworks were to celebrate the 1500th visit to Noumea by P%O. There is a photo story in the August edition of the New Caledonia Weekly which is where I picked it up. Unfortunately the pdf security will not allow copying the photos. Also reported by P&O - they don't give any credit to the local tourist authority for organising the event unlike the NC Weekly. "P&O Cruises marked its 1500th visit to Noumea last week with a Pacific Island-style celebration for Pacific Dawn and her passengers. A Melanesian troupe welcomed the superliner as she docked at the port ahead of an afternoon of traditional dancing, ice and fruit carving, a champagne waterfall and fireworks. Ann Sherry, CEO of Carnival Australia, which operates P&O Cruises, said it was a significant event for the cruise line which had been visiting Noumea for 50 years." A pleasant surprise for those on board!
Slipperyfox Posted August 5, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2012 We were on this cruise and was great. P&O advertised that they were doing for the 1500 visit of P&O ships. The Melanesian troupe were also present last year as we did the same cruise. Another good thing for our cruise was we spent 2 days in Beautiful Vila.
