Travelcat2 Posted August 3, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2012 Very interesting. Regent has been stating that they are filling the ships in record numbers and their earnings seem to prove it. No wonder other luxury lines are copying Regent:)
Rare gdlamberth Posted August 3, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 3, 2012 I wonder if cruise lines track/report a number akin to the airlines "revenue seat mile?" Essentially this is the airline's average cost to move one seat one mile. For a cruise line it seems the analogous cost might be something like "cost per passenger day." While I'm quite sure this isn't proper accounting:rolleyes:, if you take Regent's Net (please note I do not pretend to know the difference between "Net" cruise and "Gross" cruise costs) Cruise costs for the quarter and add in "other" and Fuel costs and the divide that total by the pax days available; this seems like it should approximate "cost/passenger day." Using the data in the press release, that number comes out to about $387. Not sure this passes the proverbial "So What?" test but I found it interesting to tinker with the numbers (truly a dangerous thing to do when you aren't aware or don't understand the underlying information).:p
