teaach Posted August 8, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2012 I just got a call from carnival. I am currently booked in an 8M extended aft on Glory's empress deck for our NE/Canada 7 day cruise from NYC in Sept. I booked the casino rate which was $869 awhile ago. I am happy with the rate. I have had 2 previous 8ms and I loved them. The cost for 2 of us to upgrade to an ocean suite was$650 totally all inclusive forward on empress desk. have my choice of starboard or port. I have never experienced a suite before, includes priority boarding, priority dinner res.,embarkation at ports and final embarkation. VIP treatment all the way, except no free laundry. Is it worth it for the money, or not? I am tingly about it , but not sure the investment is worth it. Hubby and I like our room amenties and balcony with wine . Not much time to decide. Hurry with advice
firefly333 Posted August 8, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2012 suites only perk is VIP boarding/debarking.. so are they giving you the new VIPF that cost $50 thrown in or something.?? How can they give you perks that are not included with a suite? I would get all this in writing before I would agree. I would be happy with what you booked for $650 myself.... and it sounds odd they are promising you perks that suites dont get.
forwardcabin Posted August 8, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 8, 2012 If you like where you are, STAY THERE! Of the four ammenities you mentioned, only the first one may get you on the ship 5 minutes sooner than you normally would. The other three aren't worth trying to do. You have a great location that you like and you know it, so STAY THERE!
teemsum Posted August 8, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2012 I booked an Ocean Suite on the Dream and it was nothing special. Sure, the room is bigger and part of it is wood flooring but the whirlpool bathtub is only for 1 person and very narrow. Cruisingly Yours
jerseyralph Posted August 8, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 8, 2012 If you have enjoyed the 8m in the past, I would not take the upsell. We have stayed in both types of accomodations and now only take the suite when our teen is traveling with us. As a couple the aft balcony is just fine. The only suite perk I enjoy is the VIP embarkation. Get to the port early and enjoy zones one or two!
teaach Posted August 8, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted August 8, 2012 Can I bargain with the Carnival? I was thinking of offering him$350 for the suite since obviously wants my 8m extended balcony?

You can call and make a offer.. they are not empowered to accept, but their supervisor can if they dont get any takers... they will continue down the line of balconys calling to try and get someone to upsell .. they probably start with the most expensive balconys.. so they might get someone on a lower category to accept the offer .. .. but if not they might call you back. I would not assume they want your cabin.. so much as they started calling down the list and got to you.. .. and are still calling down the list to get someone.
