57 varieties Posted August 12, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 12, 2012 We are going on the Whisper in November Barbados to Ft.Lauderdale. Does anyone know if we will need a visa ? We have UK passports. You will need an ESTA for entry into US. You fill in a form online but make sure you go to the legitimate website as there are some online which charge a fee on top of the ESTA charge. joefromchicago Posted August 13, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Ballyboffin, We have cruised on Silversea many times and we always have a great time. Please ask any specific questions and I will try to help you out. We have booked two shore excursions already. We arrive the same day as the cruise and should be on the ship around 4:00. Look forward to buying you a drink. Joe
Ballyboffin Posted August 13, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Joe, You are a great help already :D We are total newbie's to all of this, didn't know that you could pre-book excursions and thought that we would have to wait until we boarded. How do we do that, is it online or through the TA and are there any that you can recommend? We are staying in Barbados for a week before the cruise so hope to go onboard as early as possible. Look forward to you buying us that drink :))))) Pat & John

Ballyboffin Posted August 13, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Thanks Joe, Have taken your advice, gone on there and have booked two excursions, hope that we have made the right choices. We think that we will explore some islands privately ( or on foot ) My husband is a wee bit worried about the duty free shopping though........ Had a call from our TA today to ask us to fill in our info, didn't know that we should have done it already DUHHHHHH!! It might be true what they say about the Irish being thick, well BLONDE ones anyway :D LOL Definately buy YOU a drink onboard for all your help :))) Pat
Seafairer Posted August 15, 2012 #11 Share Posted August 15, 2012 Pat, you might also like to know that if you change your mind about excursions you've signed up for, you can always cancel a day or two beforehand. A form with the complete list of excursions will be in your cabin when you arrive (it's also available at the tour desk), and it shows the cancellation deadline for each tour. You won't need to feel you're locked into these early decisions.
jeffkauf Posted August 15, 2012 #12 Share Posted August 15, 2012 Hello Seafairer, This might be a strange place to post but I am trying to contact you via email (I don't have your direct email address). We are on the same cruise NY/LA October 31. I have some info you might find of interest. Thank you. jeffkauf@ix.netcom.com
Grandma Gilly Posted August 15, 2012 #13 Share Posted August 15, 2012 Make sure you have a copy of your ESTA otherwise they may not let you board in Barbados. We did this cruise last November. Thank goodness we had a laptop with us and there was WIFI in the port. We had to go online and prove that we had current ESTA's. It took ages to board. We flew to Barbasos via Miami and showed our entry stamps into the USA dated 3 days earlier. We said that surely we would not have been allowed in at Miami if we did not have ESTA's but this was not enough! We were not the only ones from the UK that had problems. Ballyboffin Posted August 16, 2012 Author #14 Share Posted August 16, 2012 Thank you Seafairer & Grandma Gilly for your help. We have our ESTA numbers now and will bring the print-outs with us. Good to know that we can change our minds about the excursions, or perhaps add another on. One other question if anyone knows the answer, what is the earliest time that someone can board ?
