We have an extra day in Bangkok (we will have seen all the sights in 2 days prior) and were wondering if a good day would be to take the Chang Phrya boat up and down the river and then have lunch at the Oriental Hotel..any idea how long it takes from Sathron and back to Oriental or should we get off some place and taxi back?

Thanks, Sherry

How far north are you thinking about going? The tourist boat takes 30 minutes each way (timetable tab at http://www.chaophrayaexpressboat.com/en/tourist/) but there are other boats that go farther (http://www.chaophrayaexpressboat.com/en/services/) but I can't find times for those routes. The boat is lovely but I've not gone farther than N8 (Wat Pho and the Grand Palace) so I can't advise about that.
