I didn't want to make 2 of the same thread so I will link this. Found this great video article on Yahoo! and it mimics how I pack.

I only use a carry on suitcase and a carry on bag. No more and no less. Plenty of room for souvenirs, enough clothing to mix and match and no ridiculous excess. Oh and the $25 laundry bag is nice too in case you really want to wear something that is too soiled otherwise.

Thanks for posting this. We're planning a 12 night cruise next summer in Europe, with another two weeks in Paris, all from a carry on. This is really helpful!:D
