touring nassau on our own

we will be docking in nassau at 7am (7-4) and m boyfriend wants to tour the city and id like to see the adstra gardens, queens staircase and the FREE parts of atlantis ( so i can say ive seen it) and walk the beach then head to the straw market.

my questions is, it is possible to do all this? i was thinking the city tour 1st thing since nothing is open that early yet, then head to the zoo then atlantis, and the rest on the way back to the ship.

also, any tour buses or taxi compaine you recommend is appreciated too, im kinda worried bout being robbed while there.

we are going on our own, to save $ and be on our own schedule.

any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks!

Since nothing opens before 9am, I would not recommend your venturing out before that time. You would need to be backin the port area around 3ish to embark.

Most of this is doable, especially the nassau and downtown areas..

Since Atlantis is on another island, I'd leave that for last. Not much to see these days without paying.. you're not even allowed in the main entrance.. security will show you out if you are not gambling.

thanks, thats awful that you can no longer see the FREE parts of atlantis like the shops. id like to see the casino but i think well leave that til last and it just be if there is any time left. although the aquarium sounds nice ive seen ripleys and the tn aquarium so i dont know if its worth is 4 wise.

i found a good self walking tour i think we may try, do you have any suggestions if we should use a taxi or tour bus, and especially any safety tips, maybe areas to avoid or activities to avoid. i read where some ppl were robbed so i'm just really nervous about it.

thanks again

You can see the shop if you enter thru the coral tower, but you can't go any further. The Aquarium is no longer available for free, unless you're around after dinner when security doesn't seem to be around. After 7pm.. some people have gotten to see the DIGS without issue. Some people, not so lucky.

The walking tour is pretty easy, and for the most part safe. Just leave your jewelry at home, and don't flaunt your money.

Once it turns dark.. a cab is in order.

Check out the walking tour on my website .. link is on the left..

You recommended leaving the jewelry at home, I do have a very good camera, normally carried around my neck, leaving the back-pack home, should I also leave the camera at home or do you think ok around my neck, or tote the back-pack and just bring it out at certain times if doing the walking tour? Not that I believe it makes a difference but I am a bigger guy.

Just keep an eye on it.. and keep it under wraps as much as you can.

We don't have much of a problem in these areas, but we have had a few.

Heck, I've had my camera stolen at Atlantis... it happens.
