Snorkeling Barbados, Dominica Antigua

Recommended Posts

Our stops on our January cruise are Barbados, Antigua, Dominica, St. Kitts, Turks, St. Thomas,

We plan on snorkeling St. Thomas and Turks. Which other island would you recommend for snorkeling and where? We want to just take a taxi to the beach and snorkel from the beach.

Thanks

Bonaire is great for snorkeling right from the land's edge (not much beach there) with great variety of sea creatures to be seen.

Think it was Dominica where we did the 'Champagne Snorkeling'. When I first saw it I thought it was upscale and got champagne to drink but turns out it is snorkeling over a hot water vent and the "champagne" is the bubbles from the vent. Really a great trip, and the rum punch was better anyway!

Bonaire is not one of the stops although it is known for good shore diving/snorkeling.

Dominica is where the Champagne Reef is. It's shallow for diving, and as described itis where you'll see a lot of bubbles. Kind of neat.

For Barbados, it's at the southwest side where you'll have diving/snorkeling. In front of the Sandy Lanes Resort, there is beach and decent snorkeling, with chance to see big turtles.

For Grand Turk, we also did a boat diving/snorkeling. It was pretty good.

In Antigua, the better diving/snorkeling is at the south. Need to have transportation for about 1/2 hr of ride there. But it's not from a sandy beach, but need a boat.

Often you need to go out on a boat. At St. Thomas, the Coki Beach is a place where it's a decent beach, and also good snorkeling. Other places the beach usually means it's sandy and not necessarily good snorkeling.
