Who has surfed in hawaii? And where would be a

good 'intermediate' place to stop and surf for a few

hours?

Thank you......

Have you surfed before? Hawaii's waves are a little different from the ones on the West Coast. I would suggest Waikiki as a good place to try things out though in January, the swells on the south side will be relatively small -- probably around 2-3 feet.

I'm not a surfer but I've noticed the beaches around Barbers Point (near the old Navy Base) always seem to be crowded with surfers. If the locals like it, you can't be too wrong in going there yourself. I'd classify the waves as being suitable for intermediate surfers.

I like the waves around Bellows on the east side but I understand there are some limits on surfing. The beaches and surrounding areas around Bellows are beautiful. I'm attaching a link to the Bellows Field Beach Park.
