Wine store in Quebec City

Would like to purchase wine to bring onboard near port. Can I buy wine in a grocery store or is there a specific store I can go to?

Wine sales are divided in two in Quebec.

 

SAQ - Government alcohol store, full service and a large selection of wine available. Largest selection of French wines outside of France

 

Depaneur/Grocery store - Wine is sold but the type of grape cannot be identified. So you can buy white, red or rosé and know the country of origin, but all wine is table wine and grape will not be identified.

 

The two closest SAQ stores are 1 des Carriers, Québec, QC G1R 5J5 and 400 Bd Jean Lesage, Québec, QC G1K 8W1

Yes, government run. Except that most beer in the province is sold by supermarkets/corner stores (depanneur), so we have no brewer's retail and the SAQ stocks very little in beer, mostly wine and spirits.

Is wine cheaper in Quebec? I know in Ontario we pay a lot cuz of taxes. I drink Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio but do not know if SAQ carries that?

Taxes in Quebec City and Montreal both are very high.

It amazes us each year when we visit the taxes charged on everything one purchases. :eek:
