Calling - Shore to Ship

I was going to call my son yesterday on-board – so I called RCCL to get the phone number for the ship - Empress. I was told that I could only contact a passenger on board (in their cabin) by phone if it was an emergency. Is that true?

No that is not true, there is a number to call that will get you the stateroom, but it is 7.95 a min to use and must be charges to your credit card.
