leelee16 Posted September 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2012 We're leavin on the Elation on Sat 9-22!! Woo Hoo!! We're taking my mom with us for her first cruise. She has her original birth certificate from 1965. It's a state issued one with a raised seal. My question is......is that going to be ok, or should she get a new one? I'm just terrified that we're going to get there and they're not going to accept it.:confused:
larkz Posted September 18, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 18, 2012 If it's an official government issued birth certificate and not a hospital one, I see no reason to worry. Except that I tend to be skeptical and expect the worst. In which case, if you have an opportunity to get a new one, go for it. No harm in having the extra copy, other than the processing fee. Rare sparks1093 Posted September 18, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 18, 2012 Date of issue would only be an issue if she had been in Puerto Rico. As I understand it Puerto Rican law changed and birth certificates issued before a certain date are no longer valid for proving citizenship. serene56 Posted September 18, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 18, 2012 as long as its not the hospital one and it is state issued-- you are good to go. Sounds like this may be an original so parents names are listed (VERY good thing)
munchkin4 Posted September 18, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 18, 2012 I used the original my mom got when I was born (1958) on my first cruise and it worked just fine. You should have no problems....escpecially with the raised seal.
m*u*g* Posted September 18, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 18, 2012 Will also add to make sure everything is readable. If not, pickup a new one. Should only cost about $10.
