Port or starboard

To get the afternoon sun on the port side, the ship must be travelling north or north west. For the starboard side, she must be sailing south or south east. For Caribbean cruises, there are few sea days; most are spent in port so it doesn't matter. And, since these cruises usually start and finish at Barbados, the ship changes the direction she travels so what sun you gain one day, you lose on another.

Best thing is to get on upper decks to get the sun from whichever direction.
