juli2020 Posted October 2, 2012 #26 Share Posted October 2, 2012 Are we seeing a pattern emerge here, and could it have anything to do with cost cutting or its just bad luck. The a/c has gone again on the Cloud (assuming its the old unreplaced compressor), which probably wouldn't have happened it the Cloud dry dock had been completed on the original schedule. We had an engine problem on the Shadow 2 weeks ago which cost us the visit to Tracey Arm. Never did get an answer as to what it was. The Whisper prop problem could be a fouling, an accident or more wear and tear. Again we just don't know. It would be nice if someone from SS posted on here and gave us an update. We also had an engine problem on our ten day cruise on the Shadow in July and we were delayed leaving Juneau until the next morning. We found the service and the food not up to par as previous cruises on Silversea. Putting two carafes of chilled water in your suite instead of bottled water is not what you expect on a luxury line. Bottom line...Silversea is cutting corners in all areas.

SS planted the seeds four years ago and this is how long it takes before some of you begin to notice. Congratulations! The real winner was seeing the brochure signed by the new president of americas describing SS as "ultra luxury" when she knows such is not an accurate description. Her stated goal when joining was to bring it back to ultra luxury. Such decisions are not made in the USA.
Herman The Cat Posted October 3, 2012 #28 Share Posted October 3, 2012 Heard from friends who were on this voyage. Apparently a rope got entangled in a propeller. They thought it would take an hour to fix but it was worse than thought, and the ship had to be drydocked. The only available drydock was Bayonne/Perth Amboy. I suspect this happened in one of their Canadian ports as they arrived on schedule in those ports after their transatlantic crossing. Despite all the grumbling, negativity and jumping to conclusions on this board, suffice it to say this seems like a fluke occurence, and our friends were satisfied with the compensation that SS offered. seadays1 Posted October 3, 2012 #29 Share Posted October 3, 2012 I think it is totally unfair how Silversea treats its guests! Paid a per diem rate of $ 1.200.00 per couple for the lost day! And if one has not chosen their hotel, then one is even responsible to get to Bayonne N.J. instead of leaving from Manhattan. There is no compensation offered for that tansfer. I do not think a super deluxe cruise line should treat their guests in such manner it is more acceptable of a mass market cruise line.
duct tape Posted October 3, 2012 #30 Share Posted October 3, 2012 It is pretty easy to get a line caught in the prop. Been there, done that.
Emtbsam Posted October 3, 2012 #31 Share Posted October 3, 2012 It is pretty easy to get a line caught in the prop. Been there, done that. That happened to me also but way back in 1958 on the Mauretania. Fortunately, the staff captain was a diver and he was able to help the team from shore with the repairs. It delayed our departure from Cobb by one day and put us smack in the middle of a hurricane. Ah, the good old days without Denny brown stabilizers!
