What trips are worth doing ?

 

it will be our first cruise. and are in our early 50s .

What time of year? We did this itinerary in July, and we could never get cool. It was also one of the worst cruises we went on, sorry to say.

 

But, we still had a good time.

 

We went to Seaworld in PC, Our Lucaya in Freeport, and "Gilligans" Island in Nassau (the name escapes me). Ship was the Miracle.

Although this is not the best itinerary, there are some ways to make the most of it:

 

• Port Canaveral: Unless you've never been to the Disney (and other central Florida amusement parks), I would avoid any of these excursions. It makes for a loooong, exhausting day which in turn provides very limited time at the parks. Not worth the time. Instead, I would choose something nearby. Cocoa Beach is very nice, and you can also visit the Kennedy Space Center (just a few minutes away).
   
  
• Nassau: If you've never been to Nassau, head to Paradise Island, where the Atlantis resort is located. You can purchase an excursion which will give you access to areas reserved for guests of the hotel. But even if you don't get an Atlantis excursion, you can still take a $5 water taxi from the pier to Paradise Island, and then walk to the Atlantis. Once there, you can visit the casino, shops, restaurants, and even a section of the aquarium without having to pay extra. You can also walk around downtown and the Straw Market (right where the ship docks).
   
  
• Freeport: If there's one port of call in this itinerary where you need to get away from the port area, this is it! You dock at an industrial port. However, you can take a $5 cab to Port Lucaya, where you'll find shops, beaches and some resorts. If you're interested in swimming with dolphins, Freeport provides one of the most economical ways to do so (through UNEXSO). Unfortunately, Freeport doesn't really offer much more than the above listed.
  

Have a great time! This is one itinerary where the cruise will be more about the ship than the ports of call you visit.

For Port Canaveral, we did the alligator excursion through Carnival and it was great!

 

For Nassau, we took the local bus (I think #10) to the Sheraton. Got a day pass for $25 dollars. That bought us access to the beach, pools, and non motorized toys. It was an excellent choice for us. I did a lot of research on the Bahamas boards.

 

For Freeport, I've been there before but my MIL hadn't. So we did the lunch and tour through Carnival. That was the worse tour ever. We should have just gotten a cab to go to Our Lucaya. Would have been cheaper and gotten a better tour through the cab driver!

We spent the cab money to get to Port Lucaya. What a waste. It cost us $80 ($10 pp round trip) an the shops there had the same stuff as the shops right off the ship. Couldnt get to the resorts areas they were blocked off. Didnt hit the beach because we had to be back so early. My advice is hit the ships right off the boat then go back onboard and enjoy the quiet.

In Freeport we did the glassbottom boat excursion and absolutely loved it. A bus took us out to Port Lucaya where we boarded the boat. Took an extremely lovely & relaxing boat trip out into the ocean, saw beautiful beaches, had fun feeding the fish, and just really enjoyed being out on the water. The 'glass bottom' was somewhat cloudy plexiglass but fortunately for us that was not what we took the excursion for.

 

When the tour was over we got back off at Port Lucaya and were able to have a fabulous lunch at the restaurant that was there, do some window shopping, and then caught a bus back to the ship when we were ready to go.

 

If you like rum there was also a cute little outdoor bar in the plaza area that was serving $1 shots of flavored rums.

 

It was our honeymoon and still one of my favorite parts of the cruise!
