halifaxcruising Posted October 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2012 We are curious about how easy it may be to go to Paris from Le Havre for the day. How far is it from the cruise terminal to the train station and then how long is the train to Paris? Thank you.

As to the trains, it is a little more then 1 mile from the cruise port to the train station and we walked it in about 30 min (and we walk pretty fast). The trains take anywhere from about 2:10 to 3 hours (each way) depending on the train you catch. Keep in mind it can sometimes be diffficult to find a taxi willing to take you to the train station and there are times when you can return to Le Havre only to find no taxis waiting at the station (this happened to us last year). Keep in mind that the trains from Le Havre arrive in Paris at the St Lazarre station which means you would probably need to use the Metro to get around Paris (the station is nearly 3 miles from the Eiffel Tower). We just returned from a Celebrity cruise and left our ship at Le Havre and took the train to Paris. The taxi ride from the ship was 15 minutes and the train ride was 2 hours. We purchased our tickets ahead of time and printed them at home. We stayed for 4 days before retuning home. It is doable if you have lots of time in port. Our ship was overnight in Le Havre. It is easy to do and you can catch a taxi at the train station to wherever. this was the last stop on our cruise so we just decided not to go to Southampton. I would definitely do it again. Our Celebrity cruise for next May has a 14 hour stop at LaHarve. DH and me really want to see Paris but there doesn't seem to be any great way to get there. Where did you find sites, on line, that would allow you to book your train tickets before hand? Also feedback seems to imply that it is tough to get a taxi at the port that will take you to the train station in LaHarve. The cost of the cruise tours are practically prohibitive and I haven't been able to find a site or board that is very helpful. Also, we do not speak French and understand that the people can be rude to Americans. Any info you can impart would be appreciated.
