yogi636 Posted October 21, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2012 I was wondering about the currency in st Martin. Would we best served to go with ANG. and EUROS. Will merchants do the exchange fairly. I don't want to assume the worst of people but I want to be treated fairly.
gtaylor Posted October 21, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 21, 2012 We find no need to exchange from dollars. French side restaurants sometimes offer an advantageous 1 = 1 conversion when using $$. Otherwise, I'm sure you realize that the € floats. We pay with dollars or charge larger purchases (jewelry?) on a credit card with no foreign conversion fee -- Capitol One in our case. I think you'll find the Dutch side currency referred to as NAf, Netherlands Antilles Florin, as opposed to ANG, but the NAf is officially pegged to the US Dollar at $1 = 1.79. That said, most prices will be posted in $$. Grocery stores will usually show NAf but also post in $$ and €€. I think most vendors that need to do a conversion will do so fairly, but any 'rounding' errors will probably be in their favour. gary
Putterdude Posted October 22, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2012 All most everything is priced in $US, frankly I wouldn't bother with exchange.
