furkidsmom Posted May 6, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 6, 2004 We are sailing on the Connie on June 5 and have a few questions. Do we need to have local currency with us? Do they use Euros in England? I thought they still used pounds, but we aren't sure. Will we be able to change $$ on the ship? We've used American $$ on every other cruise we took, but I don't know if the Baltic region countries take American $$. Also, we are thinking of taking the bus from Heathrow to Dover....anyone ever done that? msiowa Posted May 6, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 6, 2004 You'll probably need some local currency in each port. (England still uses pounds; Norway, Denmark, and Sweden have their own currencies although you may be able to get away with Euros). The only place we didn't get any local currency was in St. Petersburg. Most people there will take *crisp* U.S. Dollars (for some reason they don't like well-worn cash!) and we were with Red October so our guide gave us local change when we encountered pay toilets. If you will be sticking to Celebrity tours, you may not need local currency. (You'll be able to buy souveniers with credit cards if you want.) But if you're venturing out alone as we did everywhere but Russia, you'll need some cash. You can get foreign currencies at your bank before you leave or you can get them at ATMs as soon as you get off the ship. That's what we did and it was easy. There are ATMs all over the place. Have a great cruise. Wish I was going again! Joanie
