There is a Ruby Princess review which suggests that you can ignore local values regarding head coverings and bare knees. Please follow local custom out of respect, not because you have to.
I agree with you. Plus, ignoring local customs is certainly not allowed in some parts of the world. I've been to churches and mosques where they'll provide a hot, smelly cover-up that's been worn by probably thousands of people between washes and won't let you in without it. Be careful what you ignore. :) Respect for others and other cultures should be automatic.
