alonzo14 Posted November 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 13, 2012 What is the best way to put on paper luggage tags so that they will stay on we'll? Carnival says to put them on before leaving home but I'm concerned about them staying on through airline handling. I have been on several cruises but this will be my first time with the printed paper ones. Any suggestions? Thanks!
JediSkipdogg Posted November 13, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 13, 2012 Are you not touching your luggage again once you arrive at your airport at the cruise port? I've never put them on before I leave home. I place them inside my suitcase and then place them on the morning of right before I leave for the port from my hotel (fly in the day before.) I also don't just keep them as paper alone. I take the tags and fold them as needed. Then I take clear packaging tape and wrap it around the tag. Put a hole through it and use a wire tie or string and attach it on my suitcase.
birdistasty Posted November 13, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 13, 2012 I saw someone today mentioning they use the heavier glossy photo paper for their luggage tags. Said they never have to worry about sealing them with packing tape or anything (though.. I guess she's never had luggage in the rain then, either). ccruisequeen Posted November 13, 2012 #4 Share Posted November 13, 2012 We've always had to claim our luggage at the airport before putting it on shuttle. After you get it, take a small stapler or roll of tape and attach them. Then you can load it for transport to ship.
surfjock27 Posted November 13, 2012 #5 Share Posted November 13, 2012 We take our tags to Office Depot and have them laminated. It costs less than $1 each. We then use a hole punch and zip ties. It usually costs around $10 all together.. But in my opinion, it's worth it.
V8cruiser Posted November 13, 2012 #6 Share Posted November 13, 2012 used to do the tape/staple thing, but found these work better... favors by serendipity...cruise luggage tags
tef43 Posted November 13, 2012 #7 Share Posted November 13, 2012 We use these: http://www.*******************.com/luggage-tags/cruise-luggage-tag-holder.html Small one-time investment and you never have to worry about laminating, or wrapping them in packing tape, or stapling them ever again. ETA: I see CC in it's infinite wisdom has blocked the web address. Do a search on "Favors by Serendipity," once there, search for "cruise luggage tags." Anthomaniac Posted November 13, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 13, 2012 i just fold the paper from the printer and usually use duct tape to secure the end...no problem so far... I put them on in the morning before heading to embarkation - and i put a second unfolded copy inside the bag, just in case.

wrigley80 Posted November 13, 2012 #11 Share Posted November 13, 2012 We always apply the tags the morning of the cruise in the hotel. I always laminate the tags so that they are a little tougher and then staple them around the handle of my bag
Holders3 Posted November 13, 2012 #12 Share Posted November 13, 2012 I covered them with clear packing tape, essentially laminating them on the cheap. Hole punched them and used plastic tie wraps to secure to the suitcases.
pcsanity Posted November 14, 2012 #13 Share Posted November 14, 2012 A five dollar roll of packing tape will last you years of cruising. Fold the tag, put the packing tape over the tag, overlap. It wont go anywhere! And you can use the tape for other things as well.
Cruisin'Doc Posted November 14, 2012 #14 Share Posted November 14, 2012 The Favors by Serendipity cruise luggage tags are WONDERFUL!!! I can not say enough good things about them. I bought them for my luggage, for my mom, etc. That aside, before that, this is the way I handled the luggage tags: 1) Wait until the morning of/night before the cruise to prepare the tags. 2) Fold them as instructed. 3) Get clear packing tape. Cover both sides of the tag with the tape, being sure to 'seal' the tag (Alternatives: You can have the tags laminated at an office supply store or school OR buy letter size individual sheets of laminate available via Walmart or any office supply store in the printing supply section). 4) Wrap tag around handle. Obsessively tape the ends, and then staple. If you are staying the night before at a hotel, no need to take your own stapler, just borrow a stapler from the front desk. Voila! I also think this would withstand airline handling if you will not handle your luggage between airline/cruiseline.
