Hi all. could use a little help with Quebec city. Looking for a private guide to show us the highlights. about 4 to 5 hours from ship. Has anyone used such a person or company. We do this all the time around the rest of the world, but not in North America. Thanks in advance, RJB :)

I live in Quebec Province and I went often in Quebec city. If you stay for only 4 hours you can just walk in the old city it is so nice and it is a short walk from the port. You can go on www.quebecregion.com for info

I don't think you need a guide in Quebec City unless you want to venture further afield.

Walk on the Plains of Abraham where Wolfe defeated Montcalm in 1759, although both died of their injuries. Lovely park.

Then to the lovely Boardwalk along the river and to the Chateau Frontenac. There is a small museum under the Boardwalk that shows the walls and some historical stuff. We found it interesting. Take the funicular down or walk down and take it back up. Lovely old streets with many high end craft and other shops and restaurants.

Then go downtown for the regular shopping and to have lunch at our favourite place,Casse Crepe Breton on Rue St Jean just across and down a bit from McDonalds. We have been eating there at least once a year since we discovered it when we moved to Ontario from Nova Scotia in 1990. It is the one place we must go whenever we drive home! If you are lucky you will score a window seat. They make crepes in the French style as well as lovely fresh salads and great sandwiches too. Delicious cafe au lait in a bowl as is Grandmere's Hot Chocolate. The dessert crepes are a must as well and it is very reasonably priced. When we were young and our kids were younger, we liked going here as we would turn them loose and let them order whatever they wanted!

The streets are narrow, the shops are lovely and different, and lots of artists will be out selling their art and jewelry. It's truly a little slice of Europe on this side of the pond.

A perfect port to wander around in. Enjoy!
