Canadian Tyler Posted November 16, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 16, 2012 Tried searching but couldn't find much. Does anyone know where in the port area or walking distance, or near Nohoch Kay I could find a phone or buy a calling card to call home to Canada? blue water dude Posted November 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 19, 2012 It is easier to find an internet cafe in Costa Maya than a phone good for foriegn calls. Phone card instructions are in Spanish and calls from public phones are not easy. The convienience stores all sell phone cards and there are public phones on most corners. Most use the internet for phones in Costa Maya and that is true at all your stops that week. All these countries have internet cafes with head sets and sites like skype already loaded on their desk tops. If you set up an account before you leave Canada, buy $10 worth of time before you leave, and then you just log in anywhere and call for just a few cents a minute. There is an internet cafe a couple blocks from No Hooch Kay called Karlitas that has skype on all their desktops. I think they charge $2 an hour for the computer with the headset. They have a pay phone that is cheaper than the phone cards too but still much cheaper to just buy $10 from skype before you leave and use it at all your stops. Canadian Tyler Posted November 19, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Thanks! I had problems using Skype on my last couple cruises in the ports, so decided to go the phone route, but will give Skype a second shot. Sounds like the cheapest option for sure. Thanks again. blue water dude Posted November 19, 2012 #4 Share Posted November 19, 2012 If you don't want to do skype, Karlitas Internet Cafe also has a by the minute phone that is much cheaper than the phone card/public phone thing. I'm sure they use skype too and just bill you by the minute. They are about 3 blocks north of No Hoch Kay and on the second street. Owner is from the US so they hable ingles!
