New Years Day in Barbados

We'll be in Barbados on New Year's Day, 2013. Last year when we were there, we took a cab to Carlisle Beach and had a great day just relaxing on the beach and enjoying the sun and the water. Since New Year's Day is a public holiday, should we expect the beaches etc. to be much busier than usual? We'd like to plan ahead a bit as we don't want to get stuck when we need to get back to the port. Thanks for your help.

When we were there in 2009 it was a public holiday of some type. The city busses which we use to get around were much more crowded but that made it more fun. We got invited to a big company picnic by some buss patrons; due to time we didn't go. bummer. I would guess that yes beaches will be more crowded and traffic may be worse, allow just a little more time and you should be fine.

One complaint we heard was that stores etc were not open due to holiday. Some tours were not available. We had no problems and had a great time! Been there 3 times and that was a great day!

Beaches may be more crowded but traffic should be quite light. Normally New Years day is just a day to relax with family and friends so it will be quite leisurely paced that day.

There should be little to no traffic when you are ready to return to your ship as everyone else will still be at the beach.:D;)
