I would like to purchase private travel insurance and have read some of the policies but I am not an insurance person sooo? We are on a cruise in March and I think we need coverage. Here are the details

Cost for 2

Cruise - $2245

Air - $600

Pre Hotel - $200

What we would like to be covered for

Someone at home dies

Elderly parents/grown children/grandkids in the hospital before we leave or while we are gone

Medical emergency while on cruise - air evac from ship paid by insurance and/or fly us to US from hospital

Problems with flights and miss the ship

Can someone please suggest what type of insurance we need and the best company for our needs - head to the caribbean

On the most general basis, pretty much any comprehensive policy will fit the bill, subject to the different restrictions present in each policy. (Pre-ex condition exclusions, required flight delay times, etc.) The universal view is that the best "insurance" against flight delays is arriving in port the day before your trip and crashing at a cheap hotel; the Port boards here on CC should be able to give you advice there.

Tripinsurancestore and insuremytrip are two insurance brokers used by a bunch of people here without complaint if you have further questions.

On a side note, no policy covers evac from the ship itself. When called for (and it's EXTREMELY rare for it to be both necessary and possible), it will be done free of charge if the ship happens to be within range (and jurisdiction) of a govt. capable of providing the service. (From a practical standpoint, this would refer to the US for Caribbean cruises, and only for a relatively small portion of the cruise) No private company has evac-from-ship capability.
