Mariner of the Seas Review (5/15 - 5/22)

Recommended Posts

Ok let me first start off by saying thank you to the person who posted the message/thread about RM #8200.. This room was great!! It had a great view! This was a family trip ( Mother, Father, Sister, Myself and my 2 yr son). My Parents had the queen bed, my sister had the room with the bunk beds and my son and I had the pull out couch.. Everyone had their own room and space..

Ok now for the LIKES:

The room was great. The Bath room was a good size. 2 T.V's . A refidgerator in the room that came handy. Dining room was great, Loved the server Alex. The Staff was great, the shows are a must see!! We saw the Ice Show, and it blew us a way. For you BINGO players, it costs $35 per a package per a game. The best time to play is on the last day, play the morning session and afternoon session. For those that smoke, you can buy cigs on board for their special, 2 for $35.. Which is a great deal... There are a few shops on the boat. The Cafe is open 24 hrs, which is a great idea, because there were a few nights that I need Milk for my little one..The Guest Relations Staff were great. And last but not least the Mommy and Me Classes for the 18 - 36 months children were wonderful, there was a gift bag of toys for each child. Great idea!!!

Ok now for the DISLIKES:

There are no baby stations or changing tables in the bathrooms. The windjammer served the same menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. With the pool, there is a shallow end of the pool where we had my son, it had no more then 3 inches of water. They do empty out the pool each night. Anyways- we didn't have a problem using the pool with my son. One thing I thought about asking the staff of the 3 -6 years if we could use the playroom for our group, it has a nice play area with a slide and a pool of balls..

Over all the ship is a beaufiul thing to sail on. I had a great time with my family and I made some new friends.. I would Sail Again with RCI!!

We were just on the Mariner the week after you left and I enjoyed reading your review and agreed with most of your comments. The only one that I think might need clarification for those who have not sailed on a Voyager class ship was the one about them having the same menu in the Windjammer for breakfast and lunch (we never used it for dinner). While your comment that the menu is the same, may be technically true, the wide variety of menu items on the buffet for breakfast and lunch makes me wonder what else you might want them to offer. For breakfast, a not totally inclusive list of offerings includes hot and cold cereals, scrambled eggs and eggs cooked to order, including omelets, french toast, waffles, and pancakes, bacon, sausage and other breakfast meats, fresh fruit, juices, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, breads, rolls and a wide variety of pastries, and many other items I have probably forgotten to mention. Your choices are certainly not limited and I would be interested in what additional offerings you might suggest.

Luncheon offerings were equally extensive and the meats at the carving station changed daily. Again, I guess I wonder what was not available that you would like to see on their menu.

Actually, my wife will attest to the fact that I am personally not a big fan of buffets, but on the Mariner, I was more than satisfied with the offerings in the Windjammer.

Thanks for the review. We are going on MOS in two weeks.

What are the must do's on and of ship? Where was your fav. lounge and sun spot?

Thanks,

Try to get to the ship as early as possible so you have most of the first day to explore. We were on before noon, had lunch and were able to drop our bags in our room by 1pm. Debarkation was equally quick and early.

Definitely don't miss the Ice Show. It is fantastic especially the act by the guest stars George and Ana. If you haven't seen it before, and even if you have, the Quest is always fun. We enjoyed a number of the lounges and it depended on what kind of music or what else was going on as to where we spent our time. The last night we were in the Wig and Gavel and watched the big parade extravaganza.

A night at Chops or Portofino is worthwhile, but we were very pleased with the new menus in the dining room where the service was also topnotch.

We were on a full ship and rarely felt crowded. Casino was also very good to me for a change and I came home far wealthier than I expected.

I'm getting excited reading the reviews! We'll be on the Mariner in two weeks with mjcox8812. Is there anything special or different offered on the "new menus"? It's been year since we've cruised and I was just curious to how the menus have changed.
