There are several local "authorized" vendors that have kiosks set up in the cruise terminal area where you can select a number of activities. We were just in Belize two weeks ago and did a ship excursion of a river boat ride and Mayan Ruins. It was okay, but not great.

On our first cruise visit to Belize 2 years ago, we went outside the terminal and hired a local taxi driver. We asked him to show us around Belize City...kept trying to get us to stop at this store or that restaurant, etc. But we did see some parts of Belize City that I'm quite sure are not on the ship sponsored city tours...very poor, very depressed.

I was on my own as the family did the cave tubing thing. I was able to do a tour around the city on a horse drawn carriage for $20. In the area they tender to there are multiple kiosks to hire different tours. The one I did took about an hour. There were 8 of us on the tour.

On our stop in Belize we played it safe and went with a Ship excursion. We were on a bus for a tour of Belize City and then took an airboat over the marsh to see the manatees. It was just okay but better than roaming around Belize by ourselves.

BINGO!! Took the words right out of my mouth. Go snorkeling.

There are usually a couple of snorkeling excursions right off the ship. See the Shore Excursion desk for details when you board. And there's a pretty decent one leaving from the Wet Lizard on the tender pier that goes to Caye Caulker and snorkels in Shark-Ray Alley (nurse sharks and manta rays). Google Wet Lizard Belize and find the info on their website. Other vendors have snorkel excursions too, there's lots of info on the Belize threads in the Port of Call Caribbean boards here.

Or look up the US site for Coral Breeze Tours & book this same tour thru Mark here in the US.

And it is a super snorkel tour to do.

Enjoy belize.
