Question about Casino's obc

I asked this question a couple days ago but didn't get any replies so I am asking again, but this time with a (hopefully) clarified subject title.

In looking at NCL site for Casino chips or credit vouchers it seems as if the only thing listed in the casino section is OBC certificates, no chips voucher.

But aren't those Casino OBCs the same as other OBC and subject to a 3% charge if I use them for cash in the casino? I know about slot coupon and free play chips. I want something to use for table games such as Let It Ride. But if the OBC charges 3% to get casino cash, I don't want that. I'd take travelers checks to cash at front desk instead. I'm just trying not to have to carry very much extra cash through three flight connections.

Is there someway the casino distinguishes between OBC that I paid for and other kinds of OBC. Doesn't seem fair that OBC I paid for would be subject to the same 3% fee as charging it to my shipboard card.

The certificates you buy through bon voyage are not subject to the 3% because you have paid/charged them in advance, so its like cash sitting in you on board acct.

And yes they can distinguish between the different types of obc.

So if you have a balance left from your certificates I suggest you cash them in at end of cruise otherwise I believe they will submit credit back to your charge card for the balance.

The prepaid casino credits are different than prepaid OBC. When you get to your room, you will find your casino certificates. When the casino opens, you bring them to the casino cashier and he/she will give you your chips or slot tokens. I did it last cruise and I have prepaid $500 casino credit for my next one.

Hi Mary, Are you planing to head east on the next cruise?? Are you sure the injuns will let you cross highway 10?? hahahaha. I'm on the Gem out of NY on sept 21 for a look at Canada. Talk to you later, say Hi to "Your Joe". RA and Gato

Hi, RA. You're a snowbird like one of our neighbors who is in MO summers and here in NM winters.

We'e flying way east for our next cruise -- to Copenhagen -- for a TA followed by Panama Canal transit. The Ft Sill Apaches here at Akela are definitely letting us cross I-10 even though they'll miss Joe at morning coffee.

I've never been to NY. That's on my 'bucket list'.

You leave a week before we do.

What item numbers did you order? I'm leary of the 700-702, those are the promotional play chips and you can't cash those out right?

We got 701 and 702. I think it is 706 and 721 that can't be cashed until you play that amount and win it back. I didn't have a problem with these last cruise. I'll let you know if I have a problem when we go in 3 weeks.;)

If you get a package thats like buy $250 in chips get $250, etc etc. You can play them at a table and as you play them and win they will transfer you into regular chips. But you have to win with the promo chips. Else they just go back to the casino.

Absolutely. In addition to the NCL offered Slot & Casino play option you can use this: https://slotplaycoupons.com/destination/Norwegian+Cruise+Line

We utilized both on our last cruise. Have Fun :)

Not to be combative, but you can't purchase more than $175 pp of casino 'credits' under the 700/701/702.

If you prepaid $500.00, then it's the OBC #603.

Unless I'm missing something.

The rep at NCL did 2 transactions back to back, her idea, not mine:D.

1st transaction:

For me: 1 - 701 $50 and 1 - 702 $100

For DH: 1 - 701 $50 and 1 - 702 $100

2nd transaction:

For me: 1 - 702 $100

For DH: 1 - 702 $100

She used the same debit card for both transactions within one minute of each other, no problem.

2nd transaction, very tricky...

So do they give you regular chips/credits or are they the promotional type?

Good idea. I'll try that for hubby and me when I'm ready to buy our casino obc's.

701 and 702 both use the word 'promotional' in the description.

That concerns me that they might be like the promotional chips given in the '$15 for $10'. Those promotional chips can usually only be used on even money bets. I think they can be used for Blackjack.

I want to be able to get regular chips which can be used for any bet.

I play "Let It Ride" and promotional chips like those sold $15 for $10 can't usually be used for Let It Ride bets. That's why the word 'promotional' in the description of 701 and 702 bothers me.
