Reserve or Roll the dice?

We'll be in Barbados in March and are thinking of hiring a driver to take us on a tour around the island. I can't decide if we'd be better off finding a driver based on other traveler's recommendatoins and making a reservation with them or should we just book someone on the spot right outside the crusie terminal.

 

I know there are drivers who wait there for people and you can book a driver for the day. It seems you might get a lower rate doing it this way but you might not get as good or reliable a driver either. Just curious what other's experiences and opinions are on this.
