alopez2000us Posted May 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 2, 2004 My family and I (four of us, with two teens ages 14 and 18) will be stopping at Antigua, on our Golden Princess cruise, departing on 6/23/04. Could anyone give us some advice on things to do on the island (we're interested in doing things on our own, as opposed to through a ship tour)? Any good beaches? Snorkeling? If you could guestimate how much this would cost us per person, including transportation, it would be of great help!!! Thanks in advance!! melissasneu Posted May 13, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 13, 2004 My husband and I were married on Antigua and spent 10 days there. Since you will be limited by time I would do some research and narrow down your interests a good place to start is www.antigua-barbuda.org and ask questions on their boards, the locals will answer many of your questions. The island has 365 beaches...are there any bad ones? Great maritime history stuff to see (Shirley Heights, Nelson's Dockyard, Copper and Lumber Hotel). Day trips to Barbuda are UNBELIEVABLE for beach and snorkeling but may not be an option depending on time.Have a wonderful time. Melissa
Zeno Posted May 13, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 13, 2004 We took a taxi tour-including English Harbour, The National Historic Park ( Nelson's Dockyard, Shirley Heights, Dow's Hill interpretation Centre) and we saw the Natural Bridge and ended with a beach stop). We booked in advance with Lawrence of Antigua (he was great and his van is spotless and air-conditioned). His website is www.lawrenceofantigua.com. Miss Vickie Posted June 25, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 25, 2004 Check out Eli's Eco-Tour, at www.adventureantigua.com. This is the absolutely best excursion we have ever done. As matter of fact, we've done it three times now, and next time we're in Antigua, we'll do it again.
Tex_Jen Posted June 25, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 25, 2004 I second jlmolner. My sister and I went on Eli's Eco-Tour for the first time in April and loved it. You can be as active as you want to be. Plan on going again next year when we cruise on the Jewel. Jen
