Leo's Rule Posted January 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2013 Is it possible to tour Punta Cana though I'm docking in La Romana? I believe I read it's only an hour or an hour 1/2 away using the new toll road that was built, but I want to know has anyone done it? Thanks,
WendyVF Posted January 22, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2013 We stayed at an AI in Punta Cana last summer. I didn't see anything there worth touring with the exception of where they make cigars. It was interesting but not worth a 90 cab ride! It is a very, very poor area.
lifesabeach123 Posted January 23, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 23, 2013 Jan 2013 Punta Cana is spread along 30 miles of coastline. The southern part (at end of new motorway) is only 40 minute drive away from La Romana port. But, at present, there are no excursions or tours from the port going to Punta Cana. If you were to take a taxi then it would cost in the region of $US110 to $US150 per taxi, one way, plus waiting time, depending on your bargaining skills. To give you an idea of current prices, taxis from Punta Cana airport to La Romana are currently charging $US120 per taxi, one way, for 1-4 passengers with extra passengers at $US5 pp. Airport taxis seem to charge the highest rate. Port taxis also. You could go visit Bayahibe instead. A small, fishing village (and the nearest decent beach) only 15 minutes from the port. Taxis from port should charge $US60 per minivan, round trip (1-5 passengers, extra passengers at $US10 pp). Leo's Rule Posted January 25, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted January 25, 2013 Thank you both for providing me with information. I will take a look at Bayahibe and determine if I'd like to go there instead. Thanks again, you two!
