I guess it depends on your taste buds :) I didn't think it was spicy at all, but I like hot foods, so my tolerance is probably higher.

Isn't the "cowboy steak" technically a ribeye with the bone on? You could always order that if you did not want the spice rub.

a cowboy steak is the tough cuts of meat and marinated to death - at least thats what it is here in Ontario:)

According to this link, a cowboy steak is a bone in rib eye. So if you don't want the spice rubbed ribeye, you could just order the cowboy steak.

Of course you can - both options were offered to me - I chose the spice rub - but I agree that is did 'cover' up the taste of the steak and I personally would have preferred it without - now I''ll know for next time!;)
