gizzie4 Posted January 23, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2013 We booked our dollars online, not realising that we would need lots of small denominations, and we were sent a couple of 5 dollar bills a couple of 10's a few 20's and the rest in 50 dollar bills. Would we be able to change these at the bank in the Caribbean for some 1's and 5's in U.S dollar bills? We don't want to take them to Thomson's here as they will have to buy them from us and then sell us the 1 dollar bills, which will mean we will lose money on them. Any help appreciated :)
geomagot Posted January 23, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2013 yep, its a problem with ordering online, we were once sent a load of$100 bills, no-one likes them, they dont like accepting large bills in the caribbean either? you could try your own local bank (ours changed a few of ours for us) and the guy in the post office changed a couple too (only because I knew him) maybe the ship will change a couple or even the casino? (maybe a bit at a time) other than that, I would ask around in shops when in the caribbean they may change a few, here and there for you, banks may want to charge a fee but its worth asking if they will change a few I know this can be a bit of a performance...I sympathise

Sekhmet Posted January 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 24, 2013 You might also like to try the exchange desks at the airport, assuming you're flying to your cruise. The general advice of attempting to change just one or two notes at a time seems good, too.
