Has anyone flown out of Honolulu?

We will be flying from Seattle to Honolulu, have about a 5 hour layover and then onto Papeete.

Has anyone flown through Honolulu? We rae hoping to be able to head out to grab lunch somewhere, but don't want to spend a lot of $$ on a cab to Waikiki ($25 just to go a few miles! - sounds like Tahiti!)

Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks in Advance!

If you want to do something that is low cost (especially without bags) here is a thought. You can take a city bus (TheBus) from Honolulu Airport to the Ala Moana Center (240 shops) for only $2 pp. It is 6.9 miles away from the airport and buses run every 30 minutes. you could also catch a bus (or take a shorter taxi ride) to Pearlridge Shopping center. It is in the opposite direction and is an indoor shopping center with lots of shops, restaurants, and a multi-screen theater.

another suggestion would be to catch a taxi or bus to pearl harbor and visit the Arizona Memorial or Mighty Mo. Doing both on your layover might be pushing it, but even doing one is so worth it! Pearl Harbor is only a mile or so from the airport, so time should be no problem. both tours are very interesting. You would get dropped off at bascially the same point for both, so you could choose whichever had the shorter wait.

i live in honolulu, so please feel free to email me at missy1448@hotmail.com if you have any questions.

Hope you have a wonderful trip!

Just my opinion , but we took " The Bus" when we were in Honolulu and I wouldn't do it again, took forever and it stoped every few minutes, thank goodness we weren't on a tight schedule, it might cost more but it would be worth it to get a cab. Pearl Harbor is a great choice , but the lines can be very, very long and you wouldn't want to miss your connection, so if you are thinking of that at all, absolutely do the cab. In the airport all over the place are booklets that say something like, this week in Ohau, etc. These booklets are full of ads and coupons, they might have a coupon for a cab or shuttle you can use. Perhaps the previous poster from Hawaii can tell you that. Have a great trip.

Been to Honolulu a couple of times. Cabs get stuck in traffic also. The bus is still your best bet. Talk to the bus driver(s) about your destination, they are always friendly and will inform you. Pearl Harbor requires more time and they sell out in the afternoons. There are shopping shuttles which will take you to some of the big shopping centers, but you sometimes have to ride the Municipal bus back.
