Punta Delgada..are there taxi's for tours

Recommended Posts

Trying to decide if we want to take a tour with the ship, set up a private tour or just look for a taxi and tour once there. We will be four adults.

Is it hard to find a taxi at the port and do the drivers speak English and offer tours?

Lots of people (especially in PDL) speak English but a regular taxi guy may not be the best choice. My guess that full day tour should be around 140-150 euros per car per day. Larger car will easily accommodate 4 people.

If you are looking for a tour you can contact Lisa @ lisa7ring@hotmail.com

We had a great tour with her on our TA that stopped at Ponta Delgado

Tour picked up at the cruise terminal at 8:00 am, visiting Sete cidades, Lagoa do Fogo (fire Lake) with amazing views, and Caldeiras velha (a warm water waterfall located inside a reserve park area). We had a traditional Portuguese lunch at an Azorean farm.

Used www.amazingtours.se for group of eight in 2011. Ricardo was the best and knows this countryside well!! (check out the gallery photos on this site - he loves to talk photography) Believe 4-5 hr tour for eight was around 45 Eu per hr plus gratuity. (Does take groups of 4 also) He offers a number of different options, some depend on weather. Highly recommend! Jackie

I emailed him and he was very nice and replied right away but he uses a car and not a van for his 4 passengers. We are looking for a van as we are four adults and we've done a car in the past and it just didn't work out.

We were in Ponta Delgada last May on a TA cruise. We didn't do a tour, but had a pleasant, warm day strolling around town and the Botanic Gardens. At dinner, we met other cruisers who were disappointed with their tour to the Lakes area, as they experienced dense fog - they couldn't see the lakes, nor much else for that matter.

Weather is very unpredictable on this island in the Atlantic. Something to keep in mind when booking a tour.
