Are the gratuities added when you purchase your cheers package as in $42.95 plus 15% or 15% each time you get a drink? I understand about the tax added on each drink while in US port, but still fuzzy on the tips. Seems that adding 15% on total package would come out less for the bartender than if it was on each drink.

We did this on the Breeze 1/13/13, was well worth the money, no worries after you pay, S&S was less than $100 for the week, and that included 1 night at the steak house (we pre-paid gratuities) tried amny different drinks the Mocha Getaway was awesome :p

We were on the Magic last month, the gratuity was 15% of the purchase price. This stiffs your bartenders since they would normally get about a dollar on each drink, with this they are cut back to 50 cents. I did notice on the second to last day they changed the receipt format where you could add an additional tip on there.

i'm still trying to decide whether the Cheers program makes sense for us. My DH and i will both enjoy drinks every day, we're typically beer drinkers but on a cruise i'll enjoy trying different drinks, and he will some. My 27 year old stepson is also going with us this cruise, and he can drink a lot of beer in a day!!! But - with 4 port days (on 8-day Eastern) i can't quite figure out that it will be worth it...seems like those days it'll be hard to get my monies' worth...

Does it include all the specialty drinks (except those in DOD glasses) as long as they're under $10?

The 15% gratuity is added when you purchase the cheers package. The cost is$42.95 per day plus 15% gratuity, which totals $49.40 per person, per day. No other tipping unless you want to give extra when you get your drink, it can be added on the receipt you sign with each drink you get.

Can the Cheers Program be pre-purchased, such that I can have it paid off before my cruise in May? Or should I just bring ~$350 (my share of the room's total Program cost) and put it on my S&S at the very beginning of the cruise?

its a program that can only be purchased once onboard.

If you want to prepay your program buy carnival gift certificates in that amount.

Here's some good info on it

http://www.***********/info/carnival/barprogram.php

EVERYONE in the room must buy it if they are over 21

49.40 Per person, Per day (thats with madatory tip)

For two people, it's 98.80 PER DAY. (including tip)

I'll be on a 6 night/7day in september, with three ports, So assuming carnival does not charge for the day you disembark, I'd be paying 598.80 total for two people.

Now, here's where math comes in handy. I drink beer.. mm mmm beer. At 6.61 (beer plus tip) I need to drink 45 beers on the cruise to hit the break even point for just myself, (less if I drink soda, which i don't anymore, or gatorade etc). estimating 7 hours of sleep and showering etc per day, and the 8 hrs per day at each port, and not leaving until noon on the first day, means I'm unable to drink for 78 of the estimated 144 hours of my cruise meaning I have less than 66 hours of drinking time to drink 45 beers, or one beer every hour and a half.

My fiance however drinks wine, fruity drinks and martini's, meaning she only needs to drink 6 a day to break even, so 36 drinks or one every 1:48

Is it worth it... for me... probably, since we can easily put down those drinks on the days at sea.

Some people have 700 bar tabs, but remember, the package does not include drinks that cost more than 10.00, so if you're a high end mixed drink person, those won't be included in the price.

you are limited to 15 per day-- so does 15 beers equal to the amount you are paying? Does not include buckets and you must wait 5 minutes between ordering a beer to order the next one.

No, 15 beers a day is far more than what the program costs... HOWEVER, are you going to drink 15 beers a day every day, including those you're off the boat for most of the day. My first cruise, I was a booze hog, and easily topped the cost of the program, the second cruise, I was drinking far less, and had only about 200 in S&S charges, this upcoming cruise, I know I will be drinking more, as it's the end of a summer full of BBQ, bachelor parties, and weddings.

Seems a bit pricey, because you're paying for at least 2 people. So both people have to keep up.

Last time I went I bought a bottle and 28 drink coupons (got 4 additional as a gift). We ended up having an 8 day cruise instead of a 7 day cruise, and I still had to give some coupons away.

My total cost was around $200. Probably some overage. But no one I travelled with would have been able to run with me and the second card would be a lost cause.

Port days are where this will catch up with you. At sea, I could see pulling this off but I would likely be totally slaughtered.

I think this will work out good for us, we each have one kid and one adult on our bookings sooo I can get one Cheer ticket and we can share the drinks; 8 for me, 7 for her :D That is about the only way the math works out unless your a straight up alcoholic family.

You want to be careful because if caught they will revoke the program with no refund and those 8 drinks became super expensive.

agreed plus you have to wait 5 min between drinks, so you can never order 2 at once. or a bucket with it.

So i'll be ordering my beer, and 5 min later the shot for it... I assume shots are still less than 10 bucks

Well the one thing that gets me is.. they say "no sharing" of drinks. My wife and I share ALL our pina coladas, thats pretty normal for couples. I seriously dont think they are going to pull my account and make enemies of their customers over that. It would be pretty bad business. At our level best I doubt that we could drink an ave of 8 drinks a day any way so they will still be getting over.

I guess we might just a straight up alcoholic family, my DH puts away more than 15 in any given Sunday afternoon. I'm sure DH, DD and DD's BF will try to drink the ship out of beer next week. :D Us midwesterners are seasoned drinkers.

Indeed we are... Plus I realized that you get free soda too with it.

May want to check to make sure that you don't have to buy the kids soda package.

For those who did this program, another question

· Beverages promoted and sold in souvenir glasses.

is that the daily drink not included?
