Bringing metal detector on ship/looking for treasures.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Going to Bermuda on the Crown in a couple weeks and my friend's husband

would like to bring a metal detector to use on the beach.

Are there any restrictions to bringing a detector on the ship?

Has anyone done this in Bermuda and found hidden treasures?????

Thanks.

Actually I thought that was a really cool idea! You've already paid for the cruise and "floating resort". Why pay for yet more activities when you get there, when you can enjoy the beach and for free find some ancient coins? To me that's far better than sitting inside a restaurant on land drinking :) :)

I would bring it along - how could they complain about a metal detector?

I do not know the answer to this question, but have a general insight to offer up:

They don't even allow metal detectors in the parks around here. I do not know the details on why, but whatever the reason, ships and beaches in Bermuda may have something against them, as well. I do not know who you could ask for a reliable answer on this question!!! I assume it could be a big hassle if he showed up at the pier and they did not allow it on board. Would he be able to drive it back home or safely store it somewhere at the pier if they said no?

Good luck:)

There are scavangers who do this for a living - they look for lost wedding rings, engagement rings, etc that have been dropped on beaches. Apparently it's very profitable... so your friend might be welcomed roaming "their" beaches.

Artifact recovery with a metal detector has been a hobby of mine for 30+ years and I've taken my equipment on numerous cruises without any problems. The issue that should concern you is the Laws and regulations of Bermuda. The only places that I've encountered problems have been Mexico and Egypt. Mexico allows treasure hunting but holds claim to all that you find and has serious penalties for taking your finds out of the country. You need to inquire with the authorities for the rules and regulations.....below is a link

to the Bermuda Police Department that may get you started.
