Ciardasully Posted February 9, 2013 Author #130 Share Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) Okay, I will squeeze in one more update before school work...I know, I am procrastinating. We made our way back to Jack's Shack. Bryon had filled something out online where we were to get a free shot of rum or something though we never got around to redeeming it. Oh well. You win some, you lose some. We still had our golf cart and Bryon goes down some sketchy road saying that is the way to Jack's Shack. I didn't believe him but it was the way. Bryon had ordered jerk chicken and I ordered the hot dog. The hot dog wasn't bad, but if you are there, order the jerk chicken. It was so good. Topher came over and was interesting in Bryon's jerk chicken. I was so excited to meet Topher. I had seen him on the boards and in people's reviews so it kind of felt like I was meeting a celebrity. People kept trying to feed Topher french fries but he held out for chicken. Luckily for him, Bryon dropped some accidently. Ciardasully Posted February 9, 2013 Author #135 Share Posted February 9, 2013 Here is Topher playing in the sand. I have never seen a dog so happy to just dig. Bryon and I enjoyed going for a swim. We decided to head back to the ship before the crowd did so we wouldn't have to wait in any lines. We also wanted to look around the shops for something for our nephews (ages 2 and 5.) First we returned the golf cart. On the way to the golf cart, I saw some scary looking red bugs in the sand. I was wearing flip flops and luckily didn't get bit but it made me nervous. If you are like us and not just walking down the beach, I would recommend getting some beach shoes. When we returned the golf cart, the woman merely asked us if we added gas and we said yes and she told us to have a good day. I hope people don't rip them off. It was refreshing that people could be so trusting. We made our way back to the Cruise Complex and looked at the shops. We didn't really find anything so we decided to head back to the ship. I was excited to see these lizards.
Rare Buffettfan 225 Posted February 9, 2013 #136 Share Posted February 9, 2013 I know it may vary each cruise, but I am loving your review as we sail Glory in March. Can you recall which side of the ship faced the shore at each stop? I know you are in an even number cabin (we are odd) so wondering. I see so far it appears that even faced port in Nassau? I am also glad we are not the only ones that stop at local churches -the Caribbean ones are so quaint, historic and beautiful woodwork.

Hmmm...I have a bad sense of direction so my husband might know better, but I feel like Nassau and Grand Turk we were docked where Port side (even side) could see the ports. I think St. Thomas and San Juan, you could see on either side while docked, you just have different views. Also, with San Jaun, if you want to see Castillo del Morro while we were sailing into port, that was on the port side. And I agree about Caribbean Churches! Ciardasully Posted February 9, 2013 Author #138 Share Posted February 9, 2013 We were docked next to a Princess ship. Now we had never cruised before and many people "warned" us about Carnival being cheap and I didn't believe it. But Bryon pointed out that they had warm washclothes for the passengers getting back on the Princess ships. He said he was tempted to go over there and pretend he was a Princess Passenger. Here I am watching people come back on the ship from the comfort of our balcony. I had fun watching the beach empty even though it was a little sad. Princess was docked later than us but I guess her passengers were not beach people. I heard someone say that a lot of Princess passengers were sitting on their balconies watching all the excitement on our ship.
Ciardasully Posted February 9, 2013 Author #139 Share Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) Tonight was our second elegant night so we got dressed up (not kilt this time, just a tux for Bryon) and we decided to go to the Alchemy Bar for a pre-dinner drink. I had remembered to take a photo of the menu because it lit up. I don't know why, but Bryon and I were excited each time we opened up a menu. The Taste Bar was having a food sampling for Cucina Del Capitano even though were did not have a Cucina Del Capitano on our ship. So I grabbed samples for Bryon and I and I went back to Alchemy Bar. The samples were delicious and I would totally consider going to Cucina Del Capitano if I were on a shop that had one. I ordered the caramel apple martini and Ioana lit some nutmeg on fire. The drink was delicious! Edited February 9, 2013 by Ciardasully

I went to USM and lived in Portland (and Biddeford) a few years after that. My name is actually Franny (portlandpete is my husbands poker name) and we live about 2 minutes from USM! I have lived in Portland my whole life. We love living here and it really is VACATION land like our license plate have on them. Love reading about your cruise especially today because we are in the middle of a blizzard and already have 29.3 inches!
bmckim Posted February 9, 2013 #141 Share Posted February 9, 2013 Can you recall which side of the ship faced the shore at each stop? Nassau -Port Side faced Shore (Dock on Starboard Side) St. Thomas - Port Side faced Shore (Downtown Charlotte Amalie) (Dock on Starboard Side) San Juan - You pull straight in I believe, so Forward was facing shore, but you could see it from both sides. bmckim Posted February 9, 2013 #143 Share Posted February 9, 2013 Great review and photos! Just curious, did you have to pay tax on the 12 liters coming through customs? No. Because it was coming from the USVI, the allowance is I believe 6 liters each.

Ciardasully Posted February 9, 2013 Author #145 Share Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) Dinner! Tonight was the night Bryon anticipated, esgarot night. I played it safe with the Penne Siciliana. I also got the broccoli cheddar soup which was delicious. And Bryon had the Chilled Creamy Bing Cherry Soup which tasted like a milkshake. He couldn't eat much of it or he would have been too full for dinner. Like the Lobster Bisque in the Steakhouse, it was presented with the big bowl and cherries and the cream came right after in a little pitcher. Ciardasully Posted February 9, 2013 Author #146 Share Posted February 9, 2013 And now time for the main course. Bryon got the Chateaubriand With Sauce Bernaise. And I got the Roasted Half Spring Chicken with Gravy. I decided to get the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake and Bryon made fun of me. Then Greg our waiter asked me what I was getting for desert, I barely said "Warm-" and said "Chocolate Melting Cake." Bryon loved that Greg was making fun of me. Bryon ordered the Baked Alaska and Greg goes right over to his station and brings back the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake and the Baked Alaska as if he knew that was exactly what we wanted. I don't know, maybe there is some alogorithm for desserts. Baked Alaska. I know you don't need to see another pic of Warm Chocolate Melting Cake. And of course, our entertainment. Ciardasully Posted February 9, 2013 Author #147 Share Posted February 9, 2013 Bryon and I went to go to the early showing of the Latin Show. For the two previous nights we had sat on the balcony but this night we decided to sit on the lower level because we would have a table to put our after dinner drinks on. Well, needless to say, we didn't get to see the show. Someone knocked our drinks over, onto Bryon's tux and my dress. They didn't even seem sorry about it. One of the bartender/waiters told us to go to guest services about getting our stuff dry cleaned. Now this was not the fun part of our night. I really had wanted to see the show. But, I thought it was worth writing about because Carnival really went above and beyond for us. They gave us drink tickets and they gave us complimentary dry cleaning, which was done the next day. Unfortunately the stain had not come out of my dress but guest services, who had called our room, told us to get the dress dry cleaned at home and to send them a receipt. I was impressed that Carnival did all this when it wasn't their fault. It wasn't a staff member who spilled anything on us. We ended up hanging out with some new friends at The Alchemy Bar. And we saw the two comedy shows. Now, I forgot to mention that we had seen the two comedians at the Welcome Aboard Show, Al Romero and Jason Blanchard. We saw Jason Blanchard's adult show earlier that week and he was really funny. This night we saw Jorge Solano, who used to be the cruise director of the Glory and we enjoyed him. The other guy, I can't remember his name, had a ventriloquist dummy and I didn't find him that funny. If you are into ventriloquist dummies, then you would have liked it. But I just wasn't into it. Eng23 Posted February 9, 2013 #149 Share Posted February 9, 2013 Hi! I'm enjoying your review and your photos. I will be on the Glory out of Norfolk, Va. in May as are a few others that have posted here. Are you going to be able to post any pictures of the pool areas of the ship or any of the new venues such as Guy's Burger Joint? Thanks for taking the time to post your review. :)

Where did they have tasting station? No problem. (Even though my wife is technically the OP :p) The Taste Bar is on Deck 5 (Promenade) Starboard side toward aft between the Casino and Alchemy Bar.
